The Chesapeake Steel Band plays a mixture of classic and progressive steel drum band music that brings the sound of the Caribbean to the Chesapeake Bay region.
Located in the Greater Annapolis, Maryland area, we are an ensemble band with usually between 10 and 15 people playing steel drums. We've been around in one form or the other since about 2000.
Interested in playing the Steel Drum ?
The Group continues to seek new members from beginners to advanced PAN players that are interested in playing as a group and sharing the steel drum sound with the local community. Over the years, the band has had many members, most attend around 3 to 6 years, some longer. We have had many beginner players join the group and were able to play the full set list within a year. The band has a “band director” to assist with arrangement of new songs and guidance during practices. The band is currently in need of double second players or any mid-range PAN players. We do welcome all PAN players to expand our group. The band plays for the enjoyment of playing the steel drum as a group and periodically playing out locally, mainly on a Saturday or Sunday through the summer. Please contact us at firstname.lastname@example.org if interested in joining the group or have any questions. All are welcome.
It all started with a few of us taking steel drum lessons with Kevin Martin and/or Mike Miller, both of them members of The Geckos. Most of us acquired our first pans from Kevin, of Rockcreek Steel Drums; then we moved up to Mike, who is the driving force behind the Old Mill High School Steel Band. Mike still works with us at our rehearsals (thank goodness).
Each of us has day jobs, but we love to play for crowds large and small whenever we can. We're available for your party, festival, or private function on weekday evenings and weekends, Spring through Fall.
We are proud to spread the steel drum art form in our area. Please follow the links to learn more about us, listen to samples of our music, or book an event..
